Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has revealed that his administration’s ongoing infrastructural transformation of Aba is inspired by the development template used by former Governor and current Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu — a model he described as both practical and effective.

Governor Otti made this personal and emotional disclosure during Senator Kalu’s recent visit to his country home in Nvosi, Isialangwa South LGA, where the two leaders exchanged warm views on governance and development.

“My mother left us in 2003, and she is buried here, beside her husband,” Governor Otti said, reflecting on his late mother’s admiration for Senator Kalu.

“At that time, little did I think I would go into politics. My mother would swear by Orji Uzor Kalu. You couldn’t even criticize Orji Uzor Kalu in her presence. She would say, ‘No! Action Governor — the man who built all the roads, especially in Aba.’”

Governor Otti explained that this deep-rooted appreciation of purposeful leadership influenced his current approach to governance, particularly his administration’s focus on Aba’s infrastructural renewal.

“So in that template we are working — we are using that template. And I can assure you, that template is not wrong,” the Governor stated.

Governor Otti’s comments reflect a rare show of political maturity and continuity, as he openly acknowledged the positive impact of a past administration across party lines.

Analysts note that the Governor’s infrastructural drive in Aba is already delivering significant results — with reconstructed roads, an increasingly vibrant night-time economy, and renewed investor confidence in the commercial city.

“There is no sleep in Aba anymore,” Otti had previously stated. “People are awake doing business; money is changing hands — that’s how an economy works.”
