The Niger State government has allocated 1,000 hectares of land at the economic zone in Diko, Gurara LGA of the state for the establishment of a 100-megawatt electric power generation company.
Diko, though in Gurara LGA, is a suburb of Sulieja, a few kilometres from the FCT, with the potential of leveraging on the proximity to the nation’s capital for an industrial hub based on the masterplan.
It was learnt that the state government has secured approval for a $150 million financing package by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for the Solar Energy Development Project, an initiative aimed at expanding clean electricity generation, improving power reliability, and accelerating the state’s transition to renewable energy.
Governor Mohammed Bago during the consultative meeting with stakeholders in Diko community disclosed that the economic zone which has significant advantages for both the host community and the firm was aimed at enhancing economic growth, attracting foreign direct investment and creating jobs.
He said several companies were expected to be established in the zone to give the community global visibility and part of the initiative would be the establishment of 100 megawatts electric power company which would make Diko a power generating community and provide residents uninterrupted power supply.
In their separate remarks, the deputy speaker, House of Assembly, Afiniki Dauda, acting district head of Diko Alhaji Musa Suleiman Ijah, Chairman, Diko farmers Association Mr. Isuwa Yekwo as well as the President of Diko Community Development Association Mr. Obed Danlami all appreciated the governor for his foresight in developing Diko community and reassured of their cooperation.
