Love Island USA Producer James Barker Dies At 40 In Fiji

James Barker, executive producer of Love Island USA, has passed away at the age of 40 following an unexpected medical emergency in Fiji, where the show’s eighth season is currently being filmed.

His death was announced in a joint statement by ITV America and Peacock, the network behind the hit reality series.

Barker joined ITV America around August 2020 and spent years working across the Love Island USA franchise before becoming a full-time executive producer in January 2026. Beyond Love Island, he was also known for his work on the acclaimed series Queer Eye.

Away from television, Barker had a rich, creative life outside the studio. He was a DJ for over 20 years, building a dedicated fanbase across the United States through music pop-ups and live events, a passion he brought directly into his work as a producer, having spoken publicly about the importance of music to the Love Island experience.

In their statement, ITV America and Peacock paid heartfelt tribute to the beloved producer.

“James’ unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock. He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to James’ partner, family, friends and colleagues,” the statement read.

Barker will be honoured in Tuesday’s episode of Love Island USA. The exact details surrounding his death have not been disclosed.
