EKITI—Ekiti State Governor, GOVERNOR Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the ongoing governorship election, describing the turnout of voters as impressive and the exercise as peaceful across the state.
The governor, who gave the assessment shortly after casting his ballot alongside his wife at polling unit 003, Oyebanji’s Compound, RA 06, Ekiti West local government area on Saturday, urged voters to remain orderly despite pocket of technological hitches recorded in some areas.
Reacting to early morning reports of voting hitches, where standard electronic verification machines failed to capture some voters, Governor Oyebanji appealed for calm, assuring the electorate that no eligible voter would be disenfranchised.
According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has given firm assurances that technical glitches would be resolved swiftly to accommodate everyone in queue.
He said: “The report is positive and voting is going on smoothly. The turnout is also very impressive. I am happy that people heeded my call for them to come out en masse to cast their votes.
“I want to appeal to our people to be patient, because everyone will vote. I have received assurances from INEC that all those who came out will be allowed to vote.”
Optimistic of a favorable outcome at the polls, the governor stated that a victory would enable his administration to sustain its ongoing development blueprint for the rapid growth of Ekiti State.
