2027: PDP Picks Ex-Jigawa HoS As Mustapha Lamido’s Running Mate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has named former Head of Service, Muhammad Inuwa Tahir, as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Mustapha Sule Lamido, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The Chairman of the PDP in Jigawa State, Babandi Ibrahim, announced the decision in Duste on Monday and said it followed consultations among party stakeholders across the state.

According to Ibrahim, the party considered factors it believed would strengthen its ticket ahead of the election.

“We carefully considered the qualities needed to complement our governorship candidate and strengthen our chances in 2027. After wide consultations, the party agreed on Muhammad Inuwa Tahir as the deputy governorship candidate,” he said.

Tahir is from Hadejia Local Government Area and served in different capacities in the Jigawa State civil service.

He was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and later served as Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services, in the Office of the Head of Service before his appointment as Head of Service in October 2015.

He retired from the position in 2018.

Tahir is a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, and has also served on the Governing Board of the Jigawa State Manpower Development Institute and the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

His nomination comes weeks after Mustapha Sule Lamido emerged as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
